Friday Favorites

I'm going to share my 5 favorite things from this week.

1. March Madness.  And UCONN basketball.  And trash talking with family members all day today.

2.  Girl's nights at the apartment where we honestly lay on the floor and just talk about life.

3. Finding sea glass on the beach....including the rare blue piece.

4.  Feeling Good in the 90's playlist on Songza.  Which brings to me jams such as this:
5.  This week I was told a few times I have a beautiful soul.  I think this is a beautiful compliment that makes me smile more then anyone realizes.

Throwback Thursday

It's no secret that I am a fan of great music.  Yesterday I was reminded of some old favorites while Brenda's Pandora was playing at work.

I mean who wasn't a fan of Fall Out Boy back in the day?  Becoming a fan of Fall Out Boy opened up a whole new music world for me at that time.  Yes, I'm nostalgic for this great music time in my life.  And yes, yesterday morning as I was working, I sang under my breathe to every FOB song that came on.

In honor of Throwback Thursday, I present one of my favorite songs from high school/college days.

Friday Favorites

Not only do I love Friday's because it's the start of the weekend, but also because I can share my favorite things with you all.

1. This song.  Like most songs I write about on here, it speaks to my soul. I think this song is one hundred percent better without Christina in it (sorry I had to say it).  Those piano cords and his voice rip out my soul in such a good way.

2.  That I get to spend the dreaded 13th of the month with my Dad's best friend slash our neighbor Joe.  Was it weird that one of my Dad's best friends was an 83 year old man? Not really.  Is it weird that I'm tickled pink whenever I get to talk to him or hear that he talked highly about me at work?  Not even close.

3. These girls. This family. This picture. Our memories.

4. Text messages from important people in my life telling me what a wonderful special person I am.  Yes, this is selfish, but I got two text messages this week that honestly put such a huge smile on my face because I'm reminded how many great people I have in my life.

5. Peppermint Mochas from Starbucks and the wonderful baristas that welcome me with bright personalities every morning.  It's a great way to start a day.

Let me leave you with this piece of advice that I am reminded of every day, but especially on the 13th of the month.  Let your loved ones know how important they are to you. Hug people who you adore and tell them you love them.  Embrace the good in your life.  Because you will miss it when it's gone.

Friday Favorites

Spring is almost here ya'll and I am so excited for the flowers that are starting to bloom!  Just think of all the colors that are going to be coming back.  Red, yellows, greens, blues! My favorite <3

Love letters.  I have been writing them to my mom a lot for encouragement throughout her recovery.  But I have also been itching to leave a love letter to a stranger, so I'm going to be working on that in the next few days.  I think love letters will change the world.

Give Me a Reason --Pink ft. Guy from Fun.
This song is on heavy rotation on the radio right now and every time I hear it, I always tell who ever is around me that I absolutely love it.  It's funny when a certain song can speak to your soul and this song has done it for me.  I dare you to listen to this song and not fall in love.

I Feel So Close to You Right Now

Two days at work down. Two more to end the week to go.

While some might not agree with me getting back to work, it's good for my soul.  Everyone at work is so understanding for everything I have been going through, and they are all so helpful.  I have a system now.  I sit on a chair and type up prescriptions with my leg sitting on top of one of the recycling bins under the desk/table/counter thing.  I don't really move from there, instead ask for help from my coworkers when I need to check if we have something, or have to give the script to the pharmacist.

Tenzin and Holly check up on me on a regular basis; actually everyone does.  I have people making sure I'm doing well throughout the day, and people who look at me like I'm crazy when I want to get up and do something like walk to the other side of the pharmacy.

I won't lie to you; after a day at the "office" I feel completely drained.  It's tiring sitting on a chair all day just punching in data.  I have turned to Tenzin multiple times and said how I'm ready to fall asleep throughout the day.  But it's soooo much better then sitting in my bed feeling sorry for myself.

Today was a day off and I didn't really do much other then listen to Taylor's new CD and fall in love with it.  Even though she gets a lot of backlash for constantly writing about her failed relationships, I love how she somehow puts my feelings in words with her songs.  Seriously, it's sometimes really creepy.

Tonight is the LAST night of those devil shots.  Or at least I'm crossing my fingers and toes that it is because my stomach is starting to look like a smiley face with the little bruises.

Shake Down You Make Me Break.....

The storm is ragin outside and it makes me think of this song.  With the results that we have been having the past year, I always get scared when the storms become so strong, like it is today.  This wind is crazy, and the rain is coming down sideways.

Luckily I haven't gone totally crazy with nerves because I absolutely hate storms.  And it's makes me think of this beautiful Something Corporate song when the storm is going crazy outside.

Throwback Thursday: Cause She Will Be Loved

While listening to the radio recently, I have been hearing some throw back love songs that I have absolutely loved.  At some point, the song would get over played, I'd get annoyed, the song would disappear, and then when I hear it again, I would fall back in love with it.  These are just some gems that you all can enjoy on this wonderful Thursday.

Maroon 5 has always been a favorite of mine, long before Mr. Adam Levine was on the voice and releasing "Songs About Jane".  And I have always, always loved this song.

Julia and I got so sick of this song sophomore year of college that we made up our own lyrics. So whenever I hear this song, I think of her and when we would just lie around the dorm with music cranked up on high.

I think it's a dream for every girl in this world to have a song released that is about them.  If I remember from when this song was released, it's about a girl he didn't even date Deliah.  I mean really, who wouldn't want to inspire such a beautiful song from a guy they didn't even end up date.

"Collide" will always hold a special place in my heart.  Not only did I see Howie Day perform this live during senior year of high school, but I also had a dear friend dedicate this to me for my 18th birthday because he knew it was my favorite.  I have said before that I'm a sucker for a guy who knows how to play guitar.....and this is one of the reasons.

While they may not be the most romantic love songs, I have been hearing them on the radio recently and I just couldn't help but smile whenever I hear them.

Throwback Thursday.

This came onto my Ipod this morning and I remembered how much I loved it.  Plus, it always reminds me of Julia when we played that in college.

One of my favorite songs in the world.  I love how it starts slow and how it picks up for the chorus.  I don't know many people who don't like this song.

Love this song.  There is a song out now that's called "Tongue Tied" that reminds me a lot of this song.  I don't know about the music videos for any of these songs, but I do love the actual songs.

And you know it's Throwback Thursday, so I figure I would share....

Throwback Thursday: Weeeeeeee

I have been listening to a lot of random music lately, in part because I want to find the great summer playlist, but also because at work we can only listen to one Top 40 station and today's pop music gets old.  It's funny though, in a few months I will become nostalgic for the stuff that's playing now.  We are a culture who goes through popular music wicked fast.

Anyway, I started to fall in love with my old favorites.  You know....music that may have been a point of reference to our lives.  There is that old saying after all that music makes the world go round.  But here are some favorites that I hope you are able to enjoy.

Empty Apartment--Yellowcard
Beautiful song about wishing someone you once loved will remember you with fondness

Summertime--Kenny Chesney
Because it's a smile, it's a kiss, it's a sip of wine....summertime
 Try Again---Aailyah
A beautiful voice that was taken way too soon.

I want to know about other people's favorite music.  I want to know about what songs remind you of a specific time in your life or made a moment that much more memorable.  Because weather we like it or not, we all have our own soundtrack, even if we don't really "enjoy music".  I'm one of those people that needs a song always in my head, or playing around me.  I know that not everyone is like me, but I want to know those songs that may stick out, that no matter what you have to turn up the radio.

I'm a Little Drunk On You...

If you are tired of all my pro-summer posts, then I recommend leaving this post right now.  If you aren't, press play on the Youtube video, and enjoy another great summer song provided by a big country artist.

As I was thinking about the concept of a great summer song, I realize most of them are from country artists and I can't say that I hate it.  Country music is all about love, being comfortable in jeans and tshirts and drinking.  And they also happen to have a lot of music about enjoying the summer.  Basically country stars know how to live life a hundred percent.

Part of me believes this song would have been my anthem last summer, but if you think about it, a person can be "drunk on you" with anyone, not just someone they really like.  I'm such a fan of summer that even the most boring activities are better because of the season.  So maybe I'm drunk and high off summer because it's a magical time.  I sometimes wish I could have summer all year long, but then I wonder if I would love it as much as I do now.

Tell me you don't think of a specific person when you hear this song.  Because if you tell me you don't, I will tell you, with all kindness, that I think you are lying.

P.S. This little girl has become a fan of country music again.

I Think About You in the Summertime

Two posts in one day.....aren't you all lucky. (This was in my drafts because I guess Starbucks didn't like me that day....

So summer is winding down and I have to actually accomplish some of my summer goals. Let's review what I have left to finish by the end of August.

First things first.  I need to jump off Signal Rock if it kills me.  This weekend was a fail on achieving that goal, but I gotta do it soon because I'm so pumped to actually jump, but I know when it comes down to it, I'm going to be terrified.  Totally fine though, cause I'm going to jump with the beach family advising me where best to actually jump.

I gotta still come up with the ultimate summer soundtrack.  Unfortunately, the Ipod I have will probably not allow me to play it in a Ipod dock. But I figure if I make it on my Itunes, whenever I have people over I can play it.  Plus I can share it on this wonderful blog in case anyone actually wants to hear it.  (Speaking of playlists, anyone hear the Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart break up one....)

BBQ's and family dinners have been lacking. Which means that sometime soon I gotta have everyone over so we can sit around all evening/night and just be our normal weird selves and take tons of pictures.  We have been taking a lot of pictures, but I just feel like I don't get to see everyone as much as I would like.  I know, totally my fault because for a few weeks, I was working myself down to nothing.  But that has stopped and I plan on playing with my friends more often.

Beach days have been coming about a lot more then I did last year and I HAVE to make sure I take off the ultimate beach day that is Jersey Shore.  Let's be serious, I would love an adventure like that so freaking much.  But I have more of a tan then I did last year and I'm so excited about that.  I love my time in the sun.  Plus, I just feel more fit then I did last year.  Maybe it's because I haven't been on the steroids as long or maybe because I'm actually trying to do some sit ups and push ups so I don't feel like such a waste of life.  I would like to thank the Olympics for making me want to get in shape like all those athletes who train their whole life to look that good.

These Are a Few of My Favorite Things.

Let me share with you some of my current favorites on this beautiful Saturday.

Favorite song/music video: Both of Us- B.O.B. ft. Taylor Swift
Yes, I'm a typical girl that LOVES Taylor.  I think she makes songs that resemble my life completely and as a girl that loves song lyrics, I find meaning to most of her songs.  I love this song because I know people that I wish I could be strong enough to have them still in my life.  But now I gotta work on me as selfish as that is and eventually if life allows, I will have them in my life again.  Plus I think this video is stunning.  Not only am I a lover of song lyrics but I love images.  Photography is a hidden passion of mine, and I think this video has stunning use of light and filters.

Favorite saying:
Yesterday a girl at work joked with me about my status on Facebook saying I would love to be a beach bum.  But I grew up spending every weekend at the beach from early in the morning to dinner time. I love how my hair looks after a beach day.  I love the feeling of sand beneath my toes.  And I'm totally happy sitting around in a bathing suit chatting with all my friends.  My motto in life has been and always will be that there is no problem in life that can't be solved at the beach.

Favorite current trend:
Love letters.  I may only see this trend because a girl from town is making a huge difference in the world by writing love letters, but I also really enjoying writing people notes.  Holly left me a love note at work which really said how much she disliked me after a crazy day, but it came from the heart.  And last summer, we use to write each other tons of love notes and leave them in each others lab coats.  Love letters though can make a person feel invincible and be a reference point whenever they are feeling down.  They let you know someone really does care and love you no matter what you are going through.

I want to post more on the girl from town later, but I'll leave you with these few favorites of mine before I go enjoy this beautiful Saturday.  Enjoy everyone!

Throwback Thursday: Hanging By a Moment

It's been weird.   I have heard this song so many times on the radio this past week and I'm not sure why because it's such an old school song.  I love it though and sing along to it whenever I hear it.

I mean let's be honest, Lifehouse makes nothing but good jams.

Throwback Thursday: Future Freaks Me Out

I've loved this song since college. It's a song that just puts a smile on my face and I don't know why, but that's okay.  No matter how much I'm afraid of the future, I'm still going to do amazing things with the friends by myself.

I especially like the breakdown.  I mean every song needs a good breakdown right?

Not many people I know have heard of this band, or even the song, but I'm hoping at least one person will enjoy pressing play.

Let's Run Away and Don't Ever Look Back

I was asked last summer to list off my favorite songs.  And one of them happened to be Teenage Dream by Katy Perry, both her version and the one from Glee.  I love the song, I love how it makes you feel like summertime, and I love that it's about a love that gets you so wrapped up that you want to just run away with that person.

Anyway, I was looking through videos of an accapella group from UConn called the Connmen and I found a gem.  Back when I went to school at UConn, Connmen were pretty amazing.  They have a version of Inside Out by Eve 6 that can take a girl's breathe away.  I found another video that made me giggle and wish to find a guy willing to do this for me because he loves me so much and wants to just make me happy.  Just watch guys.  It brings my favorite song, dance moves from one of my favorite songs and my favorite place, UConn, together.  Enjoy.

Throwback Thursday: Summertime

Summer officially started yesterday and I find this an appropriate song for Throwback Thursday.

This song reminds me of the summer 2006, the summer after my freshmen year of college.  I loved singing this song with my friends, even though I was the only one that enjoyed country at the time.  Many nights were spent hanging out with kids from high school, jumping in pools and just sitting around various people's houses just talking and laughing about our lives. Sometimes I wish I could go back to those days, they were much simpler then, but I enjoy my life now.

I plan on just living this summer carefree just like how I feel whenever I hear this song.

And who doesn't agree that Kenny is the ultimate summer song maker?  Just what I thought, everyone.

Throwback Thursday: Summer Jam

When I posed the question of the ultimate summer playlist to my friends, Shannon sent me a list of some ideas.  This happened to be one of them.

I can't remember what grade I was in, but I remember really enjoying the song.  And while I never saw the music video until today, who doesn't love popular culture's spoof on the 80's.

Unlike some of the other songs I have posted here, I don't like the song because it has some grand meaning to it.  I just like it because it makes you want to dance around with your friends singing it on the top of your lungs.  To just get out of your head and enjoy the music I did back in high school.

So thank you Shannon for this amazing gem on the ultimate summer playlist.  I really have to hop on that list now.

Throwback Thursday: Simple Plan

Anyone remember Simple Plan?

I'm pretty sure this song came out when I was in high school and I loved it.  Last night it came on my Ipod and I remember how much I loved it.

There's really no back story to this one.  Just that I really enjoy listening to a good throwback jam. And I couldn't help but dance around singing along when  I heard it last night.

Enjoy.

Strong Enough To Lift Both of Us

To continue on with sharing my love for music, I think you should hit play on the song on the left and listen to a combination in music that many people would not expect.  Which is one of the things I love most about music, hearing a country girl sing with a rapper.  Ah-MAZING.

Funny to think that song kind of goes along with this weekend.  When you have good people around you, they are willing to lift you up and be strong enough to help carry you when you need help.  And boy, have I felt that countless times with my friends, but also witnessed it this weekend.

My friend Pam went off to training for the Air Force (I am probably wrong about this so I apologize Pam).  She has been dating my dear dear friend Louie for a while now and he was devastated when she left.  So we all tried to take him out and keep his mind off of it as much as possible.

On Saturday night, we surprised Louie with Pam showing up at the local pool hall when he thought she was returning home this Tuesday.  I never saw big teddy bear Louie cry before Saturday night.  It felt amazing to surprise a friend with such a good surprise.

Sometimes, I wonder about being strong enough for the people around me, and not letting them see at my weakest points.  But then I think to myself that those people I try to keep out have seen me during my low points and have stuck around.  I don't understand why they do stick around most of the time, but I guess that's what you do when you truly care about someone.  It's a give and take with who has to be strong for the both of you at specific times.

Throwback Thursday: Ocean Avenue

Today, as I was taking a nice little walk, my IPod shuffled to "Ocean Avenue".  Now for those of you who don't know this song or even this album, I guess you weren't a huge fan of music back in the early 2000's.

This song reminds me of high school and the idea of summer.  I mean, the title of the album is Ocean Avenue, how can one not think of the beach and spending the time at the beach with your friends.

I love everything about this song, minus the music video.  I love the lyrics.  I love the whole CD. I love how it brings me back to singing this in a car with my friends (mostly Meggie) in the car.  I love how even to this day, I still will sing this song out loud whenever I hear it.

Tonight, I was discussing the song with Shannon and Meghan before trivia.  And Shannon completely agreed that this was THE song of high school.  Now I know that there were other songs we fell in love with in high school because in high school you think everything means so much.  But the thing is, if you ever hear this song if you are in your mid 20's, you immediately think of high school.  For me, it's a wonderful memory.

I discussed this with Tom and his friend Adam back on my birthday, this whole album was a non skip album.  You could listen to every single song of this CD and not skip ahead because a song was bad.  Shannon agreed tonight.  Take the time to go back to your high school days, or wherever you were six-ish years ago.  And it will honestly make you smile.  Where you want to turn up the whole CD and just jam to it the whole afternoon.
